Probiotics & Digestive Health
Probiotics are now generally recognised and accepted as beneficial for digestive health. Probiotics provide good bacteria to populate the digestive systsem of the body and it is these bacteria the assist in digestion and absorption of food and nutrients consumed. At the same time the good bacteria assist in the elimination and evacuation of harmful bacteria, substances and toxins from the entire digestive system.

A good probiotic should have the following properties:

• "live" bacteria as against "freeze dried" bacteria. It is easy to recognise "freeze dried" probiotics as they are usually in tablet or powder form and they always state that they have billions and billions of bacteria. The reason they need billions of bacteria is because most of the bacteria is ineffective or not alive due to the very harsh industrial "freeze drying" process to preserve the bacteria. Bacteria count is NOT IMPORTANT. What is important is what keeps the bacteria alive.
  
  
• bacteria count is important only in terms of the number of different species and or strains of bacteria in the probiotic. For example, a species name is "Lactobacillus" and the strain may be "acidophilus", commonly written as L. acidophilus. A good probiotic should have as many species and or strains as possible.
  
  
• protected from the strong stomach acids so that the bacteria can get to the intestinal areas for release or usage in a manner for the bacteria to be effective.
  
  
• can be kept at room temperature and does not require refrigeration.
  
  
• ideally if the probiotic is in capsule form, the capsule should be a vegetable softgel capsule, not gelatin or containing gluten. A probiotic in its paste form may be more effective for specific digestive issues.
  

Phytonutrients (Lignans) & Antioxidants
Phytonutrients are nutrients or natural compounds derived from plant materials or foods such as vegetables, fruit, whole grain products and legumes. These plant compounds have beneficial effects working with other essential nutrients to promote good health that have been shown to be necessary for sustaining human life.

Phytonutrients are quite simply the best types of antioxidant foods that you can find anywhere. One example of a phytonutrient that contains a very high level of a powerful antioxidant is flax hulls. This is just the SHELL ONLY of the flaxseed, not the oil of the seed material, and it has very different properties. Krill oils are obtained from krills. Krill is the common name given to the order Euphausiacea of shrimp-like marine crustaceans. Also known as euphausiids, these small invertebrates are found in all oceans of the world. The common name krill comes from the Norwegian word krill, meaning "young fry of fish", which is also often attributed to other species of fish.

Traditional trawling is unsuitable for krill harvesting. The Antarctic krill holds very potent digestive enzymes, and it basically self-destructs before it can be processed. It is therefore important that econ-harvesting of Krill is practised. The krill is taken into the ship underneath along with the ocean water so that it is not exposed to air or the atmosphere that causes it to disintegrate. Eco Harvesting means the equipment stays under water while a continuous stream of water flows through the hose, bringing the live and fresh krill directly onto the factory vessel. This allows for processing of fresh raw material directly onboard the floating Life Science Factory, which again means bioactive components are retained for superior product quality. Eco-harvesting also ensures that the population is not over harvested depleting stocks for whale and fish food and allowing the krill population to recover.

Krill Oil provides omega-3 in phospholipid form, mainly as phosphatidylcholine. Testing & General Health
Using the Osumex Testking kits is a good way to monitor and regularly check on user's general health including determining the healthy state of the body's components. This is to find out and take remedial actions, if necessary, where the tests show that the user is likely to develop certain health issues such as diabetes type-2 or others. Such health problems once onset is difficult to reverse and therefore it is better to prevent rather than to remedy.

Osumex Heavy Metal Testing (HMT) kits
These kits are suitable for testing any reasonably clear solution such as water, urine, food, materials, etc. However, if the user wants to test a solid substance, prior preparation may be necessary to produce the sample solution for testing. If the user wants to test a solution that contains alot of chemicals, such as washing powder, it may not work due to the many chemicals (such as bleach), in them. For other solutions like medications, shampoo, etc., please contact Osumex prior to testing so that the correct preparation of the sample solution is carried out to ensure an accurate test.

There are 2 types kits - HMT General and HMT Specific kits:
The HMT General kit is a good preliminary test for the presence of a range of 8 metals in a sample solution. However, only the metal with the highest concentration will show finally in the test result, which is a colour band just below the top of the solution. If the colour band is observed carefully the user may be able to find out if there are more than metal present. The user is recommended to take a digital image of the test result and send to Osumex to assist in the interpretation, if required.

The HMT Specific kit is a more accurate test for an individual metal. Each kit will test one metal once giving results in parts per million (ppm). Like the General kit, it will only test a reasonable clear soltuion with the same conditions on what can be tested. There are tests at the present time for 15 different metals.

If the user wishes to check for the presence of mercury in the body, use first morning urine. Saliva is used only if the user wants to find out if the amalgam dental fillings in user's teeth is leaking mercury. The General kit is suitable to check this but if the General kit is used to test for metals in user's urine, the presence of mercury is often masked by the presence of the other metals and the Specific Mercury kit is recommended.

Osumex Free Radical Test kits
The Osumex Free Radical Test checks the body for free radical activity using urine. The test measures Malondialdehyde (MDA) which is a by-product of free radical activity. This test is 50 times more accurate than measuring free radicals using blood because the body eliminates MDA quickly from blood into the urine. Therefore checking first morning urine will give a more accurate reading.

It is important to monitor and check free radical activity in the body on a regular basis because though free radicals are essential to the proper function and healthy state of the body, they become harmful when there is excess free radicals. Free Radicals are the one of the main causes of many health problems especially degenerative diseases like aging, Alzheimers, Parkinson's, cancers, etc. If excess free radical activity is detected, the user must take remedial action to control and reduce via diet and supplementation. A person who smokes or is in a heavy smoke polluted environment as well as a physicall active person such as an athlete are more likely to have excess free radical activity.

Osumex Adrenal Function Test
The Osumex Adrenal Function Test is another urine test. It checks for salt (Sodium chloride) in urine to determine if the adrenal glands are function normally as against it being fatigued or hyper. This is a useful check because the adrenals are linked to the thyroids and if they are not functioning propely, it may be affected by or affecting the functioning of the thyroids too. Whether the adrenals are hyper or fatigues, it is important to correct this so that the healthy state of the body is not compromised.

This is a very simple test and using fresh morning urine. Basically, it involves turning the urine from yellow to brown after adding a yellow activator and then adding drop by drop of an indicator until the yellow urine is turned brown. The number of drops of the indicator used in the process can be read of a chart which will indicate how the adrenals are functioning. A standard sample 1% salt solution is provided for the user to try before actually performing the test so that the user is familar with the colour change when it happens.

Osumex Sulkowitch Test
The Osumex Sulkowitch test is also an urine test like the Adrenal test. It checks calcium in urine with a simple titration procedure. Calcium is a very important mineral in the body and most common. The body uses calcium to build and fix bone and teeth, help the nerves, muscles, heart to function properly and is also necessary for blood clot. Almost all of the calcium in the body is found in the boens with the rest in blood. They are then eliminated from the blood into the urine.

The test will check the level of calcium and determine if the user is hypo- or hyper-calcemia. The level of calcium in the blood is inversely proportional to phosphate levels, ie., when calcium levels are low, phosphate levels will be high and vice versa. Phosphorus is an essential mineral that is required by every cell in the body for normal function. The majority of the phosphorus in the body is found as phosphate. Approximately 85% of the body's phosphorus is found in bone. The level of calcium and phosphate must be well maintaned.

Osumex 10-P (Parameters) Test
The Osumex 10-P Test is a very useful urine analysis to check on the healthy state of the body and its organs. It checks for 10 parameters in urine such as glucose, bilirubin, pH, specific gravity, blood, protein, urobilinogen, leukocyte, nitrites and ketone. From the results of these parameters, the user can determine:

• liver function - based on presence of bilirubin and urobilinogen
• kidney function - based on presence of blood and protein
• bladder infection - based on presence of nitrites and leukocytes
• pH state of the body
• specific gravity reading will determine if there is potential for serious health problems
• adult onset diabetes - based on presence of glucose
• burning of fat - based on presence of ketone

Osumex pH Indicator Test
The Osumex pH Indicator test is again a simple urine test for pH state of the body. This is very important as an alkaline pH state is essential for good health. Harmful bacteria and viruses thrive in an acidic state and cannot survive in an alkaline state. The ideal pH range for a human body is between 6.5 - 7.5 and the user is encouraged to check on a regular basis. For a better confirmation, the user should check both the first morning saliva and urine.

The test consisits of a strip with 2 indicator areas. Collect saliva and or urine and dip the strip into them ensuring that the indicator areas are well covered. Remove the strip and wait for the colour change to stop and compare to the chart provided in the pack to determine the pH of the saliva or urine.
