Probiotics & Digestive Health
Probiotics are now generally recognised and accepted as beneficial for digestive health. Probiotics provide good bacteria to populate the digestive systsem of the body and it is these bacteria the assist in digestion and absorption of food and nutrients consumed. At the same time the good bacteria assist in the elimination and evacuation of harmful bacteria, substances and toxins from the entire digestive system.

A good probiotic should have the following properties:

  • "live" bacteria as against "freeze dried" bacteria. It is easy to recognise "freeze dried" probiotics as they are usually in tablet or powder form and they always state that they have billions and billions of bacteria. The reason they need billions of bacteria is because most of the bacteria is ineffective or not alive due to the very harsh industrial "freeze drying" process to preserve the bacteria. Bacteria count is NOT IMPORTANT. What is important is what keeps the bacteria alive.

  • bacteria count is important only in terms of the number of different species and or strains of bacteria in the probiotic. For example, a species name is "Lactobacillus" and the strain may be "acidophilus", commonly written as L. acidophilus. A good probiotic should have as many species and or strains as possible.

  • protected from the strong stomach acids so that the bacteria can get to the intestinal areas for release or usage in a manner for the bacteria to be effective.

  • can be kept at room temperature and does not require refrigeration.

  • ideally if the probiotic is in capsule form, the capsule should be a vegetable softgel capsule, not gelatin or containing gluten. A probiotic in its paste form may be more effective for specific digestive issues.
LB17 Live Probiotic meets all of the above properties with 17 strains of live active and viable bacteria. For more information please Click here

LB17 probiotic will help users with good digestive health. This is the first step to improving the immune system and general good health. LB17 is also effective in helping users who suffer from IBD, IBS, Crohns, Colitis, Candida (yeast), Gas, Bloating, poor digestion, elimination of toxins, colon cleansing and detox, bacterial balance, lactose or gluten intolerance, and other general health problems caused by poor digestive health. LB17 is also useful for type-2 (adult onset) diabetic users in that it helps with blood circulation and poor skin health such as closure of open wounds quickly.

Phytonutrients (Lignans) & Antioxidants
Phytonutrients are nutrients or natural compounds derived from plant materials or foods such as vegetables, fruit, whole grain products and legumes. These plant compounds have beneficial effects working with other essential nutrients to promote good health that have been shown to be necessary for sustaining human life.

Phytonutrients are quite simply the best types of antioxidant foods that you can find anywhere. One example of a phytonutrient that contains a very high level of a powerful antioxidant is flax hulls. This is just the SHELL ONLY of the flaxseed, not the oil of the seed material, and it has very different properties. Flax Hulls has the highest botanical source of a phytonutrient called Lignans or Secoisolariresinoldyglucoside (SDG). Research and studies by the Mayo Clinic, the American Cancer Society and others have concluded that SDG are one of the most powerful and effective antioxidants that will inhibit and slow the growth of tumour and cancer cells.

In addition, flax hulls provide the daily value of Vitamin B12 in the form of Cobalamin and is a nutritious dietary fibre.

Osumex Concentrated Natural Organic grade Flax Hulls provide high levels of botanical lignans (SDG). The enhanced version is Osumex Concentrated Natural Organic grade Fortified Flax Hulls with 3-day old broccoli sprouts. 3-day old broccoli sprouts contain the highest level of another phytonutrient that is also a very powerful antioxidant against cancers called glucoraphanin. When glucoraphanin is chewed, it releases sulforaphane. It is this sulforaphane that Prof. Dr. Paul Talalay of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD., found to be highly effective against cancers in mice.

Osumex Flax Hulls and Fortified Flax Hulls will help users with getting powerful antioxidants that will help to control excessive free radical activity in the body. This is especially good for the active person such as an athlete because the body produces free radicals when energy is produced. You can measure free radical activity in your body using the Free Radical Test kit (click highlighted text). Free radicals, although important for a healthy body, in excess causes a lot of damage to the body such as aging and cuases most of the degenerative diseases.

Osumex Flax Hulls because it helps control free radicals, is therefore very good for strengthening the body's immune system. Free radicals among other things deplete the immune system. The full maximum benefit of flax hulls can be achieved when used in conjunction with Osumex LB17 probiotics as the good bacteria from LB17 probiotics will convert the botanical lignans (SDG) to mammalian lignans (Enterodoil & Enterolactone). The body absorbs mammalian lignans more efficiently.

Krill Oil (Omega-3) & Blood Health
Krill oils are obtained from krills. Krill is the common name given to the order Euphausiacea of shrimp-like marine crustaceans. Also known as euphausiids, these small invertebrates are found in all oceans of the world. The common name krill comes from the Norwegian word krill, meaning "young fry of fish", which is also often attributed to other species of fish.

Traditional trawling is unsuitable for krill harvesting. The Antarctic krill holds very potent digestive enzymes, and it basically self-destructs before it can be processed. It is therefore important that econ-harvesting of Krill is practised. The krill is taken into the ship underneath along with the ocean water so that it is not exposed to air or the atmosphere that causes it to disintegrate. Eco Harvesting means the equipment stays under water while a continuous stream of water flows through the hose, bringing the live and fresh krill directly onto the factory vessel. This allows for processing of fresh raw material directly onboard the floating Life Science Factory, which again means bioactive components are retained for superior product quality. Eco-harvesting also ensures that the population is not over harvested depleting stocks for whale and fish food and allowing the krill population to recover.

Krill Oil provides omega-3 in phospholipid form, mainly as phosphatidylcholine. Omega-3 availability is increased when delivered by phospholipids compared with other sources, due to more efficient absorption of omega-3 phospholipids in the small intestine. On the other hand, the Omega-3 from fish oil is in triglyceride form which is not soluble in blood whereas phospholipids are. Therefore bioavailability of krill oil is superior to fish oil.

In additiona, attached to the Omega-3 of krill oil is a powerful antioxidant known as Astaxanthin. Benefits from taking Astaxanthin can be summarized as:

  • Astaxanthin exhibits a strong photoprotective effect - protects against free radical activity arising from the sun
  • Astaxanthin increases cellular energy by protecting mitochondria - protects the cell walls from being damaged by free radicals produced when energy is generated in the body
  • Astaxanthin is able to cross the blood-brain barrier to protect neurons - protects the brain functions, nerves and macular degeneration
Krill oil is also very good for blood health in reducing bad cholesterol while promoting good cholesterol. This is due to the Omega-3 in krill oil. It is also very beneficial for joint health and in reducing arthritis and joint inflammation. For endurance athletes, krill oil's helps the muscles to recover quickly.

Most of the above beneficial properties of krill oil mentioned above are found from oils produced from the superba Antarctic krill species Euphausia superba. The oils produced from krill harvested from the other waters around the world may not be as potent.

The combination of Osumex products of LB17 probiotic, Flax Hulls and Krill Oil is very good for general health in that they take care of digestive health, immune system of the body and also blood health. They protect against onset of serious health issues and general ailments as the body age.

Liquid Glucosamine & Joint Health
Glucosamine is an amino sugar and a prominent precursor in the biochemical synthesis of glycosylated proteins and lipids. Glucosamine is part of the structure of the polysaccharides chitosan and chitin, which compose the exoskeletons of crustaceans and other arthropods, cell walls in fungi and many higher organisms. Glucosamine sulfate is a naturally occurring chemical found in the human body. It is in the fluid that is around joints. Glucosamine is also found in other places in nature. For example, the glucosamine sulfate that is put into dietary supplements is often harvested from the shells of shellfish. Glucosamine sulfate used in dietary supplements does not always come from natural sources. It can also be made in a laboratory.

Glucosamine complex, containing both hydrochloride and sulphate, along with other substances such as methysufonylmethane (MSM), Chondroitin and Collagen are believed to be more effective for joint health and arithritis. MSM supports healthy connective tissues like tendons, ligaments, and muscle. It helps to reduce inflammation in tissues and is an important substance in muscle pains, bursitis, etc. The sulfur in MSM supports healthy muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Arthritic conditions have responded to oral MSM. Some researchers note results from MSM when used for post-exercise muscle pain.
